Last year, Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, provided a one-time grant for child care programs that needed computers. Joyland Home Day Care is a five-star family child care home that benefited from this grant.
Director, Joy Parks, is putting her computers to great use. Each day she provides the parents a photo slide of what their child did for that day. Instead of a written report, parents get to "see" their child learning, playing, and exploring their world. Joy creates these slides through a private online account and emails them to the parents on her new computers from Smart Start.
It is often said that a photo is worth a thousand words. When parents see their children laughing and smiling as they learn, they can take comfort in knowing their child is receiving great quality care and education while they are away working.
